Looking for the famously hunger-crushing power of the world’s bestselling chocolate bar without quite as much sugar? Turns out, the naturally sweet, caramel flavor of medjool dates — mixed with a few other ingredients — are a shockingly good substitute for a classic Snickers bar. At least, that’s what people on TikTok say. According to the social media chefs, you’ll also want to grab a jar of peanut butter, some roasted peanuts, and a bar of dark chocolate to integrate the other flavors and textures Snickers is known for in order to make an effective copycat dessert.
Dates are a fruit native to the Middle East, high in fiber, and boast an impressive array of nutrients. Medjool dates are the ultimate choice for snacks and desserts because they’re soft and chewy, and bigger than other date varieties at about two to three inches long. There is a hard pit inside each one, but it’s easy to remove by slicing them open lengthwise with a butter knife, or you can buy pre-pitted dates. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to fill each piece of nature’s candy with peanut butter and chopped peanuts, chill it, and dip it in melted chocolate for that shiny copycat-Snickers shell.
